My Horse Story

I was on holiday with my Mother when I was about 18 years old. We had decided to get away from the cold winter of London and have Christmas in Tunisia, in North Africa. We stayed in a big hotel on the beach near a town called Hammamet. During the holiday, we made friends with some other people from London and we had dinner with them many times. The man, whose name was Dave, was the barman at the House of Lords so he had lots of interesting stories to tell.

One day, me and Dave decided that we would rent two horses and go for a ride along the beach. The beach was quite empty so it was safe to ride horses along the shoreline and make big splashes in the sea with the horse's hooves. I had ridden a horse once before, but Dave had never ridden one. We rode all the way up the beach safely and then turned around to go back to the stables. The horses seemed to know exactly what they were doing and they obviously decided they wanted to get back in a hurry because they started galloping. It was quite scary, but a lot of fun and the spray from the sea was flying up around us.

Suddenly, the horses turned right to go up the little path to the stables. I managed to hold on, but Dave went flying off his horse and landed, face first, in the sea. His horse couldn't care less, it seemed, as it kept on galloping up the path towards its home.

When I saw that Dave was OK, I laughed and laughed because he looked so funny flying through the air!

I really like riding horses and would love to do it again. maybe I can go with Ruby and Zahra when they're a bit older.
